Joseph and Megan Herren have had a passion for marriage for almost 20 years! In fact, the flame was ignited before they were even married! As Joseph and Megan were experiencing the exciting times of dating and engagement, they were watching a close friend going through many marriage struggles which ultimately resulted in a devastating divorce. It was during these times that Joseph and Megan realized two things:
- “We must safeguard our marriage in order to prevent that from happening to us.”
- "We want to help others so that they don’t have to experience that pain or struggle.”
Six short months after getting married in 2003, Joseph and Megan attended a marriage class, in Springfield, MO, to begin donning the armor to safeguard their marriage. A few months later, they traveled across the country to become certified in teaching that program. For the following 9 years, Joseph and Megan taught marriage classes, even as they transitioned from Springfield to Kansas City, MO. They saw many powerful moments between couples as they became unified and equipped with the necessary tools.
In 2007, Joseph and Megan became involved with discipling engaged couples through one-on-one pre-marital counseling. Through the years, they have loved watching many couples shift from the mindset of preparing for their wedding to preparing for their marriage.
As they continued to grow in their desire to help marriages thrive, Joseph and Megan felt the calling to begin a dedicated marriage ministry at their local church. They have taught classes, provided events, and have organized and hosted a marriage conference.
Joseph and Megan have been blessed to be a part of many marriage transformations, but in 2020, they felt a tug from the Holy Spirit to take a giant leap forward! Through a series of God moments, they connected with authors Greg and Julie Gorman, founders of Married for a Purpose. The connection can only be attributed to God and, as only God can arrange, they were trained by Greg and Julie themselves in order to become certified marriage coaches!
Today, Joseph and Megan continue discipling engaged couples and especially enjoy teaching them about God’s intent for marriage while allowing the presence of the Holy Spirit into their sessions. They also, alongside a team of marriage changers, continue to lead the church’s marriage ministry and are excited to see it grow! Finally, because of their certification, Joseph and Megan empower couples, whether they’re in crisis or they’re looking to take their marriage from good to great, through the proven process of discovering and fulfilling their God-given marriage purpose! They thoroughly enjoy partnering with the Holy Spirit in transforming marriages for His glory!
Joseph and Megan have been happily married since 2003 and currently reside in Kansas City, Missouri. They have two beautiful Christ-following daughters, Hannah (14) and Emily (11), and two dogs, Moose and Salvy. They enjoy their deep connections with fellow believers at their local church, Journey Church of Kansas City. In addition to recently spearheading the church’s marriage ministry, they have also lead the hospitality ministry together since 2012. Joseph’s business background is in the insurance industry and Megan has a master’s degree in Physical Therapy. When not ministering to couples, serving at church, or homeschooling their children, they enjoy cheering on the Kansas City Royals, playing family board games, gardening, hiking, and traveling in their RV.
